The Gateway Router is a powerful low-cost solution for IP routing applications that require wire-speed performance over T1/E1, DS3/E3, and OC3 circuits, with options for DC power and redundant AC or DC power supplies. The Gateway includes an easy-to-service 19-inch 4U rackmount chassis with locking access door, high-performance industrial computer, high-speed DDR memory, 12-slot PCI backplane, and a 10/100/1000 ethernet port. The Gateway uses flash storage with no moving parts to maximize reliability.
Each PCI slot accepts LAN and WAN adapters including all Industrial Series network cards. With these add-on cards, the Gateway can connect IP networks using multiple 56/64 K DDS, fractional and full T1/E1, fractional and full DS3/E3, OC3/STM1, token ring, ethernet, 802.11a/b/g wireless, ADSL, basic rate ISDN (BRI), and 56 K dial-up circuits. Another important feature of the Gateway Router is its onboard 10/100/1000 ethernet port. This onboard GigE interface takes advantage of Intel's Communications Streaming Architecture (CSA), which provides an independent high-performance direct-to-memory bus that eliminates PCI bus overhead and traffic. Because the CSA topology does not use the Gateway Router's main PCI bus, it also increases the total throughput capacity of the router.
The Gateway takes advantage of the ImageStream Linux™ router distribution, which provides support for NAT firewall security, IPsec and SSL virtual private networks (VPNs), quality of service (QoS), VLAN tagging, VRRP for LAN failover, dynamic routing, packet filtering, bridging, peer-to-peer traffic control, and more. ImageStream Linux also includes the Inetics platform, which provides a tightly integrated Linux kernel, management software, and the Inetics Driver Component Architecture (IDCA). IDCA supports WAN protocols including PPP, Cisco HDLC, frame relay, ATM, and SoftCell™ ATM. Inetics also makes it easy to troubleshoot LAN and WAN connections by providing real-time port status and performance monitoring.
The Gateway can be used in a wide range of applications from the core to the edge. It's ImageStream's most popular solution for midrange applications that require wire-speed performance with redundant power. The Gateway works where most Cisco 3800, 7200 and 7500 series routers are used, and it is commonly deployed by ISPs and telcos for multihomed networks that require high-density T1/E1, multiport DS3/E3, and OC3/STM1 SONET or SDH connectivity. The Gateway is the industry’s lowest cost OC3 router, and it is ideal for midrange service provider applications and corporate networks where a high level of scalability and redundancy is required.
